Van Halen represent, for me, the epitome of classic hard rock. They do it all right – the blistering guitar solos, the turbulent drums, the saucy lyrics.
There aren’t many bands who are quite so representative of the late 70s/early 80s golden age of the hard rock band.
They are also rock stars in that particular way which no longer exists. Real rock stars.
In “Hot For Teacher” you get that timeless blend of catchy guitar work, energetic drumming, powerful and shouty vocals, and overall cheekiness which defines classic hard rock.
And when all’s said and done, the shredding guitar is what it’s all about, and Eddie Van Halen is in a very rare league when it comes to delivering intense guitar solos.
The song was released in 1984, and on 1984. Perhaps Van Halen could have been a bit more creative with that album title, but it’s one of the greatest rock LPs of all time regardless!
