There’s a mischievous, youthful joy to The Undertones’ music. It’s often remarked how much this contrasts with their origins in Troubles era Northern Ireland. Perhaps that was always the point.
This track is proto-typical Pop Punk at its best. Catchy vocal hooks, livewire guitar riffs, a skanking ska type bass line – it’s a thoroughly infectious two minutes of fun!
Norman is presumably the local creep ‘lurking in the dark’ and ‘chasing girls’. There’s a strong echo of 1960’s cult favourite movie “Psycho”, whose iconic villain is called Norman Bates.
