This soulful seventies nugget was originally a Diana Ross song, released in 1973.
Marlena Shaw’s 1979 version, from Love Bites, adds a few pinches of disco flair, resulting in a heavenly concoction of horns, lush strings, and svelte bassline, topped with a thumping beat and tribal percussion.
And, although Diana Ross’ singing is naturally incomparable, Marlena Shaw is a soul legend in her own right. When that chorus hits, it’s just phenomenal!
Loved MFSB version but Markwna does a great job here. Saw her live @ Robnie Scotts 10 years ago – phenomenal and helped her to her waiting car after having a chat!
