The Dead Kennedys were a crucial part of the original Punk Rock movement. Formed in 1978, the band hails from San Francisco, and Marin is the name of a county in California.
“Moon Over Marin” is broadly about environmental destruction. It’s a raucous takedown of the negative role humans play in ruining the Earth.
And it’s surprisingly catchy, too. You wouldn’t say the song is Pop Punk, exactly, but there’s an earworm quality to the muddy, energetic guitar riffs and quavering vocals.
You can find the song on Plastic Surgery Disasters, released in 1982.
