The start, so sublime. A subtle, sad run of colours and airy vocals. The horn synth pulses gently.
Then a new vibe kicks in about half way through. The intensity rises, the bass starts to shake, and when the song flares up again, it’s a trappy banger.
You never lose that delicate touch, though, even as the mix gets busier.
You can find ‘Timeless’ on The Colour Of Anything, Blake’s 2016 effort.
There’s a rejigged, hip-hop influenced version featuring vocals from rapper Vince Staples, released later the same year. I do prefer the original but it’s a nice twist.
