If you’re wondering, that lovely LA sunset guitar riff is from a 1977 song by David Matthews called Space Oddity. It’s sped up, and brings along the same bassline.
It gives the whole affair a nice, relaxed flavour. The sample was used by MF DOOM first for his Metal Fingers alias for Coffin Nails, a 2003 instrument – he then flipped that to create this beat.
The lyrics elevate the song to true classic status. Rap lyrics have been used as evidence in court – and it’s true that these guys are often incriminating themselves with their graphic descriptions of their wrongdoings!

MF DOOM tragically died at the end of 2020. We can all hope for a legacy as rich and timeless as his.
