15/08/2018: “Friday On My Mind” by The Easybeats

“Friday On My Mind” has been covered many times by artists such as The Shadows, Gary Moore, Bruce Springsteen, Blue Oyster Cult, and David Bowie.

But my favourite version is still the original. It’s a classic, and the drudgery of the working week is unfortunately very relatable for many of us.

A clever thing about the song is that the verses are quite mournful in a way, and gradually get more happy until “Friday” comes around the the song bursts into life.

The main guitar riff at the start is instantly recognisable, and the song is packed full of catchy pop melodies.

The song has been rated as Australia’s best song a couple of times, but in fairness, even against stiffer competition the song would still hold up well.

Although it sounds like it could’ve been made a bit earlier, the tune was released in 1966, hitting number 1 in Oz and number 6 in the U.K.

Here’s to all the workers!
