The Black Eyed Peas have gone through a few iterations, keeping up with the music around them. Starting off with straight Hip-Hop, their style progressed to increasingly dance-pop styles, which for me produces various levels of success. Sometimes, I like that electro-pop. Sometimes I don’t.
I’ll call out “I Gotta Feeling” and “The Time (Dirty Bit) as two songs I personally feel should never have been made, though I can understand why they did.
A song like “Rock That Body” is much more interesting to me. It retains the slick hooks and simple melodies of a pop song, making it catchy and easy to listen to. But it is more like their earlier stuff, stuffed to the brim with funkiness and rhythmic vocals.
The central synth hook provides a solid base for the distorted electronic vocals of Will.I.Am and Fergie.
The song alternates between a very smooth style in the choruses, and a more aggressive one for the verses. It is I think, one of the Black Eyed Peas most intriguing productions.
The song is from The E.N.D. album from 2009, and reached number one in the U.K. Singles Chart.
Such a banger!
