Johnny Osbourne is one of my favourite artists. Given the right rhythm, he can nail it – in any style.
This is one of his older songs, taken from his 1979 debut Truth & Rights. It was also released as a single in 2016 on Studio One.
He’s well known for his more dancehall orientated music. This isn’t that. It’s a simple crooner, like the old school Jamaican R’n’B which gave rise to reggae in the first place.
The organ plays softly, the bass hums along slowly, the guitar barely breaks a sweat. And Johnny Osbourne? He lavishes the song with a fine vocal performance, bringing effortless passion to the song.
