I’ve got literally no idea how I came across this one. It isn’t a particularly famous track, to say the least.
That said, I’ve been beguiled by its funky charms. Even though the song was released in 2006 on an album of the same name, it sounds like it could be from the late 80s.
And that’s sort of the point – it’s Freestyle music, which is a type of Electro popular in NY and Miami with Latinos at that time.
A punchy synth bass and drum machine lay down a sharp beat, while Martinez’s powerful voice adds flair. A simple piano progression gives the tune extra flavour.
The song was produced by Edwin Ramos, a studio engineer who was behind some fairly heavyweight R’n’B tracks by Mary J Bilge.
