Arthur Russell was a cello player. But I don’t want to do him a disservice – his creativity clearly went further than that.
World Of Echo, released in 1986, does what it says on the tin. Broadly ‘experimental’, the album plays with textures and sound through a dubby approach to recording, slapping reverb and delay on everything.
“Soon To Be Innnocent”, Russell’s voice surfaces intermittently and then retreats to the subaqueous cello echoes bouncing around the track. Somehow, the track still vaguely retains a bit of catchiness.
