07/11/2020: “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor” by Arctic Monkeys

2005 is now 15 years ago. Long enough so that I can’t imagine a song like this going to number one on the UK Singles Chart, like this did.

It’s angry, sung in Alex Turner’s real accent, and growls away in classic early Arctic Monkeys style. I think it’s great, and so did Indie establishment mag NME at the time.

They’ve subsequently rated it among the 500 best songs ever – in the top ten at number 7!

After its initial release as a single, the song appeared on the Monkeys’ debut album in 2006, the snappily titled Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.
